We are seeking a collaborative Organist/Choir Director to help lead and shape the musical life of our church. This includes, but is not limited to, playing the organ or piano, directing the choir, and selecting music appropriate for liturgy in the Episcopal Church. This position reports to and collaborates with the Rector of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church. The position is quarter time (up to 10 hours a week). Compensation includes an annual salary of $15,000, negotiable PTO, and additional compensation for weddings, funerals and other services as provided by parish customaries.

Essentials

• Provide organ music at our 10am service on Sundays (9am during the summer), and special services throughout the Church year: Christmas (2 services), Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Lenten Taizé Evensong, Advent Taizé Evensong and other special services as determined by the Rector
• Select hymns, service music and anthems for all services
• Provide music or help find a musician for weddings and funerals, as requested by the families involved (Parish Organist has the first right of refusal)
• Provide music/lyrics to the Parish Administrator in a timely fashion for inclusion in the bulletin
• Rehearse weekly to train the adult choir (the choir is off during the summer)
• Check in weekly with the Rector and attend staff or program meetings as requested by the Rector
• Rehearse with the children in preparation for the Epiphany pageant
• Encourage opportunities for the community to participate in and be enriched by music
• Recruit and hire guest musicians as needed or requested
• Engage and provide a substitute pianist or organist when absent
• Oversee care of musical instruments ad choral library
• Provide monthly summary of the music program to the vestry
• Be willing to see and dream about what’s possible: future choirs or music groups, and other services that are fitting for the liturgical year

Qualifications

• Organ/piano proficiency and experience
• Experience facilitating and leading church worship
• Experience conducting a choir
• Awareness of or willingness to understand Anglican liturgy and the liturgical church calendar
